Brown University — Granoff Center

After a decade of operation, the technology and infrastructure at the Granoff Center was in desperate need of a refresh. The original systems predated Dante entirely — point-to-point analog cabling and early media-network switching that had aged out of reliability and could no longer keep pace with how the building was being used.

With AV-over-IP technology now mature, it became the perfect solution for tying the entire building together. The refresh replaced the pre-Dante point-to-point cabling and legacy distribution with a unified AV-over-IP backbone — Dante audio, video, and control carried on a single managed network between the auditorium, production studio, recording suite, and screening facilities. Motion-capture and spatial-sound systems were folded into that same network, giving the building a shared infrastructure for performance, research, and immersive media work alongside its teaching and production rooms. New DSP, switching, and Dante interfaces let the spaces function as teaching rooms on a Tuesday and finished production environments on a Friday, with student operators moving between rooms without relearning the system.
